Globalisation

Globalisation has become one of the most talked topics of the present world. Basically the term is related with economy. It is the process of expanding business around the world by creating a borderless market. But the idea is not confined only to the business world. It has a far-reaching effect on every aspect of life. Culture, communication among different nations, education, sports etc are now influenced by globalization. Science and technology has speeded up the process of globalization. It is not possible for any country to survive ignoring the effect of globalization. But if globalization brings any good, the developed countries are the most benefited and the poor countries are the victims of it.

Globalisation is not a new concept. It existed in some kind in the 19th century when Industrial Revolution was taking place. Capitalism is intensely related with globalization. Capitalism paves the way of globalization. Capitalism developed in the European countries because of their ‘laissez-faire’ policy. Due to globalization, trade and commerce has spread all over world. Taking the advantage of globalization, the industrially developed countries are spreading their business all over the world especially in the poor countries. But the poor countries can not keep pace with them. As a result the products of the poor countries can not survive in the market. The products of the rich countries flood the market of the poor countries and so many companies of the poor countries are being closed down. There is cheap labour in the poor countries and the rich countries are taking advantage of it. As a result the gap between the rich and the poor is also increasing. Only a few people of the world are enjoying the fruit of globalization and the rest of the people are being exploited by it. Globalisation can bring happiness to all if we can ensure justice, solidarity and equity in the world.

At present globalization and technology are interconnected. The process of globalization has been accelerated by the help of science and technology. Internet has brought a great change in the field of communication. This technology has created 24-hour trading network. Worldwide money transfer and transaction of business has become very easy. We can now buy and sell goods by using internet. The aim of globalization is to make communication among the people of the world and technology is serving this purpose.

Globalisation is influencing every aspect of our life. We find the influence of globalization in culture too. Satellite television and the internet are bringing all sorts of different customs and behaviour into our homes. Under the influence of globalization, global cultures are steadily getting integrated with local cultures. As a result, many countries are losing their heritages. This is having a profound impact on our young generation.

Globalisation creates a relationship among the people of the world. So a common language is needed for this communication. For many reasons English has become international language. Now English is not only the language of the Americans or the British, it belongs to the World’s people. English is being used all over the world. As a result, there is a bewildering variety of English all over the world.

At present, nobody can deny the influence of globalization. So the developed countries should come forward with an open mind to make globalization effective so that the poor countries can also get its benefit. Then we can hope for a better world where there will be no disparity between the rich and the poor countries.
